Intentional dressing as an entrepreneur in India is something I think about deeply — and the more I reflected on it, the more I realised something that genuinely surprised me.
The way I build an outfit in the morning is almost identical to the way I build a business strategy. The thinking process, the principles, the attention to detail — they all follow the same framework. And that framework has a single word at its core:
Intention.
I do not get dressed by accident. I do not build businesses by accident. Both require a clear vision of what I want to achieve, a thoughtful selection of the right elements, and the discipline to make decisions that serve the bigger picture — not just the immediate moment.
Today I want to walk you through that parallel — because I think it reveals something important about how the entrepreneurial mindset touches every dimension of life, including the way we show up on the outside.
| Tell me how a person builds their outfit, and I will tell you how they run their business. The same thinking lives in both. |
Step 1: Start With a Clear Vision
Every great outfit starts with a question: What do I want to communicate today? Every great business starts with a question: What do I want to create, and for whom?
In both cases, the answer to that question shapes every decision that follows.

| Before I choose a single piece of clothing, I think about where I am going, who I am meeting, and what impression I want to create. The outfit is built backwards from the vision. | Before I make a single business decision, I return to the core vision — what am I building, what does it stand for, and what does success look like? Every strategy is built from that clarity. |
✦ Clarity of vision is not just a business principle. It is a life principle. Everything — including how you dress — becomes more powerful when it starts with a clear intention.
Step 2: Choose Your Foundation Pieces First
In fashion, foundation pieces are the anchors of an outfit — the well-fitted blazer, the perfectly tailored trousers, the classic dress that works in any room. Once the foundation is right, everything else falls into place naturally.
In business, foundation decisions are the ones that define everything else — your values, your target audience, your core offer, your brand identity. Get these right, and the rest of the strategy builds on solid ground.

| I always start with one strong foundation piece — something that fits perfectly and communicates exactly the right tone. The rest of the outfit is built around it, not the other way around. | I always start with the foundation of a business — the core problem I am solving and the person I am solving it for. Every product, service, and strategy is built around that foundation, not the other way around. |
✦ In both fashion and business — get the foundation right first. Everything built on a strong foundation is stronger for it.
Step 3: Every Detail Is a Decision
One of the things that separates a great outfit from a good one is the details. The right shoes. The right accessories. The right colour choice. Each detail either adds to the overall picture or distracts from it. Nothing is neutral.
The same is true in business. Every touchpoint — the words on your website, the way you respond to a client, the design of your logo, the tone of your emails — either adds to your brand or dilutes it. Nothing is neutral.
| 👗 BUILDING AN OUTFIT | 💼 BUILDING A BUSINESS |
| When I put together an outfit, I consider every detail — not because I am obsessive, but because I understand that the details are what elevate something from ordinary to outstanding. The wrong earring can throw off an entire look. | When I build a business strategy, I consider every detail — not because I am a perfectionist, but because I understand that the details are what differentiate a great brand from a forgettable one. The wrong word in the wrong place can cost a client. |
✦ Details are not small things. In fashion and in business, they are the difference between impact and invisibility.
Step 4: Edit Ruthlessly — Less Is Almost Always More
One of the most important skills in building a great outfit is knowing what to leave out. Adding too many elements, too many colours, too many accessories — the result is noise, not style.
One of the most important skills in building a great business is knowing what to say no to. Adding too many products, too many offers, too many directions — the result is confusion, not clarity.
| 👗 BUILDING AN OUTFIT | 💼 BUILDING A BUSINESS |
| Before I leave the house, I always ask: is there anything here that does not need to be here? If the answer is yes, I take it off. Editing an outfit is just as important as building it. | Before I launch anything, I always ask: is there anything here that does not need to be here? If the answer is yes, I remove it. Editing a business strategy is just as important as building it. |
✦ Restraint is not a limitation. In style and in strategy, knowing what to remove is one of the most powerful skills you can develop.
Step 5: Wear It With Confidence — Then Let It Go
Here is the final step — and it applies equally to fashion and to business.
Once you have built the outfit with intention, chosen every piece thoughtfully, and edited until it feels exactly right — you have to put it on and stop adjusting it. The moment you walk out the door, the outfit is done. Your job now is to show up fully — not to second-guess every choice you made.
The same is true in business. Once you have made a decision with full intention — researched it, thought it through, consulted the right people — you have to commit to it and move forward. Constant second-guessing after the decision has been made is the enemy of momentum.
| 👗 BUILDING AN OUTFIT | 💼 BUILDING A BUSINESS |
| Once the outfit is built and I leave the house, I stop thinking about what I am wearing. I trust my choices and focus entirely on showing up fully in the room. The outfit has done its job. | Once the business decision is made and implemented, I stop revisiting it at every turn. I trust the process, stay alert to feedback, and focus entirely on execution. The strategy has done its job. |
✦ Confidence is the final layer — in fashion and in business. Trust your choices. Show up fully. And let your work speak for itself.
The Deeper Truth
The reason I find these parallels so compelling is because they reveal something I genuinely believe: the entrepreneurial mindset is not something you switch on when you walk into the office and switch off when you close your wardrobe.
It is a way of thinking. A way of approaching every decision — big and small — with clarity, intentionality, and care.
When I get dressed in the morning with full intention, I am practicing the same discipline I bring to my business. And that consistency — between how I think about style and how I think about strategy — is what makes both stronger.
| Intention is not a business tool. It is a life philosophy. And when you apply it to everything — including the way you get dressed — it changes the quality of everything you build. |
The next time you stand in front of your wardrobe, try asking the same question you ask before any important business decision:
What do I want to create today — and does every element in front of me serve that vision?
I promise you — the answer will change how you get dressed. And the discipline will carry straight into how you lead.
